A BOTTICELLI VENUS

This is a detail from the famous painting by Sandro Botticelli, "Mars & Venus", from c. 1483 (see here for full painting). It shows the Roman gods Venus and Mars in an allegory of beauty and valour. The youthful and voluptuous couple recline in a forest setting, surrounded by playful satyrs. The painting is typically held as an ideal of youth, sensuous love, pleasure and play. The work is in the National Gallery, London.

    wonderful choice Nick....paintings, art in particular, always speak to the imagination.... if one just 'listens' he could here lots and lots of stories.. how extraordinary!
