BULGARIAN SUNSET

Plovdiv (Bulgarian: Пловдив) is the second-largest city in Bulgaria after the capital Sofia, with a population of 338,153 according to the census from 2011. The city is situated in southern Bulgaria and is referred to as the "heart of Bulgaria" due to its location roughly at the centre of the country.

It is an important economic, transport, cultural and educational centre, as well as the largest and most important city in Northern Thrace and the second in the wider international historical region of Thrace. Plovdiv's history spans some 6,000 years, with traces of a Neolithic settlement dating to roughly 4000 BC; it is one of the oldest cities in Europe.
