YESTERDAY, TODAY & TOMORROW

Taraxacum officinale, the Common Dandelion (often simply called "dandelion"), is a herbaceous perennial plant of the family Asteraceae (Compositae). It can be found growing in temperate regions of the world, in lawns, on roadsides, on disturbed banks and shores of water ways, and other areas with moist soils.

T. officinale is considered a weedy species, especially in lawns and along roadsides, but it is sometimes used as a medical herb and in food preparation. As a nearly cosmopolitan weed, Dandelion is best known for its yellow flower heads that turn into round balls of silver tufted fruits that blow away on the wind.

DANDELION

There was a dandelion
With lovely fluffy hair
That glistened in the sunshine,
And in the summer air.
And oh! This pretty dandelion
Soon grew old and grey,
And sad to tell!
Her charming hair,
Blew many miles away.

FRIDAY GREENS #18 - CORNUS CAPITATA

Cornus capitata is a species of dogwood known by the common names Bentham's cornel, evergreen dogwood, Himalayan flowering dogwood, and Himalayan strawberry-tree. It is native to the low-elevation woodlands of the Himalayas in China, India, and surrounding nations and it is naturalised in parts of Australia and New Zealand. It is grown elsewhere as an ornamental.

This is an evergreen tree growing to 12 metres in height and width. The leaves are gray-green and pale and fuzzy underneath, and several centimetres long. It flowers during the summer in white blooms. The infructescence is a small aggregate of several individual fruits fused into a body 2 or 3 centimetres across. It ripens into a red, berry-like structure and is edible, but sometimes bitter. There are several varieties and hybrids.

FRIDAY GREENS #4 - ARUM BERRIES

Welcome to this new meme active every Friday!
The theme is "Friday Greens" and you can post images, art, photos where the predominant colour is GREEN!

GREEN is the colour between blue and yellow in the spectrum; coloured like grass or emeralds.

Here are some Arum seedheads. Arum maculatum is a common woodland plant species of the Araceae family. It is widespread across most of Europe as well as Turkey and Caucasus. It is known by an abundance of common names including snakeshead, adder's root, arum, wild arum, arum lily, lords-and-ladies, devils and angels, cows and bulls, cuckoo-pint, Adam and Eve, bobbins, naked boys, starch-root, wake robin, friar's cowl and jack in the pulpit. The name "lords-and-ladies" and other gender related names refer to the plant's likeness to male and female genitalia symbolising copulation.

In Summer, the lower ring of (female) flowers deep in the spadix of the inflorescence form a cluster of green berries, which in Autumn turn bright red. These remain after the spathe and other leaves have withered away. These attractive red to orange berries are extremely poisonous!
